The Story Behind Our Enamel Charms: From Sketch to Jewelry

The Story Behind Our Enamel Charms: From Sketch to Jewelry

Every charm we make starts with a feeling.

Not a trend report. Not a market analysis. A feeling — the kind you get when you see something small and beautiful and think, I want to carry that with me. That's the philosophy behind every original design at Mosswick, and it's the reason our enamel charm collection looks the way it does: personal, playful, and made with genuine intention.

Here's the story of how our charms go from a first sketch to the piece you hold in your hands.

It Starts with Everyday Life

Our best designs don't come from sitting at a desk trying to be creative. They come from living. A walk through a flower market that makes us stop at the tulips. A late-night whiskey that deserves to be remembered. A bird on a branch outside the window on a quiet morning. A spatula that's been used so many times it's practically a family member.

We believe that the objects and moments that make up daily life are worth celebrating — and that jewelry is one of the most intimate ways to do that. When you wear a charm, you're not just wearing a decoration. You're wearing a memory, a mood, a piece of who you are.

The Design Process

Once an idea takes hold, we sketch. A lot. The goal is always to capture the essence of the subject — not a photorealistic copy, but the version that makes you smile when you see it. The tulip that's just tulip enough. The fishbone that's unmistakably a fishbone but somehow also a piece of art.

From sketch, we move into prototyping — testing proportions, refining details, making sure the charm works at the scale it needs to be worn. A charm that's too detailed loses its charm (literally). A charm that's too simple loses its soul. Finding that balance is the hardest and most rewarding part of the process.

Materials That Matter

We work with a small selection of materials that we trust completely:

  • 18K gold plating — warm, rich, and tarnish-resistant. The gold we use has depth and character, not the flat shine of cheap plating.
  • Enamel — our enamel pieces are filled with colour by hand, layer by layer, and then polished to a smooth finish. The result is a surface that's both vivid and durable.
  • Ceramic — for our ceramic charms, we love the matte, tactile quality that no other material can replicate. Each piece has a warmth that feels handmade, because in many ways, it is.

Every material is chosen because it serves the design — not because it's the cheapest or the easiest option.

Made to Be Worn Your Way

From the very beginning, we designed our charms to be versatile. Every piece comes with an open jump ring, which means you can wear it as a hair pin charm, a necklace pendant, a bracelet charm, an earring, or a bag accessory — whatever feels right to you.

We love seeing how our customers style their charms. A tulip on a hair pin for a spring wedding. A fishbone on a chain for a night out. A moon and stars charm on a bracelet for everyday wear. A whiskey bottle clipped to a bag because why not.

There's no wrong way to wear a Mosswick charm. That's the whole point.

Original Design, Always

Every charm in our collection is an original Mosswick design. We don't copy. We don't follow. We make things that feel true to us and hope they feel true to you too.

If you've ever picked up one of our pieces and thought this was made for me — that's exactly what we were going for.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for wearing our work. And thank you for believing, like we do, that the small things matter most.
